Singapore's benchmark Straits Times Index <.FTSTI> sank 2.6 percent at open on Thursday, led by losses in financials and commodities after U.S. stocks tumbled overnight. By 0101 GMT, the index stood at 1,733.46 points, down 50.55 points. Top lender DBS Group <DBSM.SI> was down 3.38 percent, United Overseas Bank <UOBH.SI> was 2.83 percent lower and Wilmar Interntional <WLIL.SI> fell 4.15 percent.

Singapore Telecommunications said Wednesday net profit fell 12.1 percent for the second quarter as regional income was hit by a strong local currency and rollout costs for the launch of Apple's iPhone.
